Feral Anthem - is the nom de guerre of Spokane-based musician Jeremy Rouse. Rouse has been performing his own brand of earnest, raw indie folk throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond for well over a decade. During his engaging live performances he deftly transitions between soulful balladeering, and raucous howling over quick-tempoed strumming. Rouse’s lyrics carry as much passion and conviction as his live performances. His latest effort, entitled “The Long Death”, recorded over eight days in rural Iowa, is a testament to this. The album explores not only universal themes of change, loss, and mortality; but also includes Rouse’s own reflections on state violence, indigenous identity-- drawing from his own mixed Native and Swedish immigrant heritage -- and raising children in dark and trying times. Feral Anthem is a blend of roots, punk, and soul music that, above all else, strives to be sincere, passionate, and thought-provoking.
