High Note Group is fronted by Joel Astley, this year’s winner of Washington Blues Society’s Best Male Vocalist award, nominee for Best Blues Performer of the year, and winner of the Best Blues Harmonica award two years running. He has collected several other nominations from the Washington Blues Society over the past three years. He has risen quickly to local favorite, and can be seen playing and sitting in with multiple award winning bands and musicians around the region.
Rafael Tranquilino is known best for his work with The Rafael Tranquilino Band, a power trio consisting of guitar, bass and drums that fuse rock, blues and funk with an alternative and fresh sound. Rafael comes from a musical family, playing music since he was ten years old. He acted as musical director for the Randy Oxford Band before branching out for himself and launching his own band. Since then he has been globetrotting and pleasing enormous crowds on some of the most esteemed blues stages on the continent. Most recently on a tour through Mexico his band attracted national attention for his scorching guitar work and energizing stage presence.
Lissa Ramaglia, long time northwest favorite bassist with luscious vocal chops, was inducted this year into the Washington Blues Society’s Blues Hall of Fame. Add this to her already impressive list of accolades!
Tom Dostal is an accomplished musician with an impressive resume including 12 years in the percussion chair with the Andy Williams Moon River Orchestra, as well as long stints with entertainers ranging from Glen Campbell, Robert Goulet, and Petula Clark, to British blues-rock goddess Elkie Brooks.
Special guest Lorenzo Farrell is the keyboard/bass player for Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, and over his career he has backed up countless blues icons and legends.
