Star Drums and Lady Keys – is a musical

Lonnie Williamsduo combining the New Orleans drumming of Leslie “Star Drums” Milton with the Chicago piano of Gael “Lady Keys” Kurath.  Their music centers on blues and ranges to R&B, soul, and New Orleans party music. With regard to histories, Leslie was drumming in the New Orleans French Quarter at the age of 12 and toured the whole Chitlin circuit and the Apollo Theater in his teens. As a session drummer in Los Angeles for many years he played with famous blues and soul artists including Johnny Otis, Etta james, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Roy Brown, and Ike & Tina Turner.  After moving to Seattle in 1977, he played with the Blue Lights, Slam Hound Hunters, and Freddie James. Leslie has been honored to receive the Drummer of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Hall of Fame membership, and Living Blues Legend awards from the Washington Blues Society.  Upon teaming up with Gael in 1998 they found that they shared a love for the same styles of great music.  Their partnership was honed by 11 years of playing every saturday at the Alligator Soul Restaurant in Everett, and they have now played a broad range of clubs and parties together for over 17 years.  Les had his 77th birthday in 2015 and is still drumming strong – the beat goes on!
