- is a band from the Upper Skagit Valley in Washington State made up of Jeff Maher (from Concrete) who plays bass; Jim Fichter (from Concrete) who plays mandolin; Michael McClaskey (from Van Horn) who plays percussion; Andris Vezis (from Marblemount) who not only plays but makes his violins; and Richard Lewis (from Rockport) who plays guitar.
We play acoustic swing music – Gypsy Swing and Texas Swing, as well as Jazz and Blues. We play both up-tempo songs and slower grooves. We are also working up a growing repertoire of original tunes. It’s all about sharing this music and energy with our friends and wider community, making people happy, and getting folks dancing.
Our influences include Django Reinhardt, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks, and primarily our own muses! We play standards from the different genres, but we are increasingly creating our own eclectic arrangements of the songs.
We typically play at the Birdsview Brewery, at the Woolley Market, benefits for KSVU at the Marblemount Community Hall, or an occasional outdoor venue, but mostly we play at Jeff’s House! We are looking to play venues Down Valley, and maybe in the Methrow Valley.
What’s the (short) history of the band? Jeff met Jim; Richard was invited by them to an outdoor jam in Sedro-Woolley in the fall of 2015. Andris indicated a similar interest in the music and joined the group. This past spring Michael came by to help us with our amplified sound and stayed with us as a percussionist. So, as it stands in summer of 2018 we are a quintet, and we are still “Undecided” through it all!"
